The Boy With The Thorn In His Side / The Smiths (Morrissey/Marr)
Think back to when you wanted to be a nurse or a train driver, a ballerina or a space traveller. There was a time in your life when you just KNEW what you wanted to do and how it was all going to turn out. Those were the days when the vision was burning bright and the how wasn’t a concern.
You just knew what excited you and what things you enjoyed doing, what lessons you loved to attend and when time just flew.
But now we’re older, in some cases just a few years older, someone has projected their view of us and our capabilities onto the back of our brain. It’s playing there like a bright cinema screen and it reminds us that real life is going to be difficult and slow. And you won’t be able to do the things that used to excite you and you’ll have to get a proper job.
Can’t get it out of my head as Kylie used to say. Meh.
So, when you want to really live, how do you set about it?
How Do You Start? Re-connect with your passion; think about what you really love doing and how it changes you when you do it. Write it down or note it on your phone or make a mind-map or something. You may want to do it but you also have other stuff to remember and you don’t want your candle to get snuffed at this stage. Do some research (but not too much). See what your passion area looks like now – in 2017. Keep thinking about it and talking about it (even if only to yourself). And do it NOW.
Where Do You Go? You don’t need to go anywhere but to get others’ views would broaden your scope. Go online, look at what other enthusiasts are talking about. If you like networking, go network. Go toward your Passion.
Who Do You Need To Know? Go one-to-one with people you admire and trust; talk to them about your ideas. Ignore the ones who trash them – they’re cranking up Kylie’s Projector again. Be with the people who are good at what you want to be good at. Ask them if you can watch them do it – they will not say “no”. Increase your credibility of yourself. Tell yourself you’re one of the best and getting better. Your Passion will put you in the Top 5% of people doing what you do, and deep down, you always knew that.
Do It Now – You’re Good Enough.
